Best Dog Daycare in Stouffville, ON — Academy Daycare

Dog Daycare in Stouffville, ON

Stouffville has grown fast. What was a quiet small town is now a community of over 52,000 people — and a lot of dogs. With that growth has come more daycare options, but not all of them are built the same.

Academy Daycare is located right here in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, at 22 Cardico Dr in Gormley. We’ve been working with dogs for 15 years, and our approach is different from what you’ll find at most facilities in the area.

What Makes Academy Different

Stouffville has several daycare options — Muttz with Mannerz, K9s in Kahoots, Dogs at Camp, Complete Dogs, Mas and Paws. They each have their strengths. Here’s what sets Academy apart:

Canine Behaviour Specialists, Not Babysitters

Our staff aren’t part-time workers who happen to like dogs. They’re canine behaviour specialists with 15 years of hands-on experience reading and managing group dynamics. They can identify stress signals, predict conflicts, and intervene before problems start. That expertise is the reason we’ve maintained a perfect safety record — zero serious incidents in 15 years.

Temperament-Matched Groups

Most daycares group dogs by size. We group by temperament, energy level, and play style. A timid 50-pound dog doesn’t belong in the same group as a pushy 50-pound dog, even though they weigh the same. Proper matching means every dog in the group is having a good day, not just the bold ones.

Behavioural Daycare

This is something most Stouffville daycares simply don’t offer. If your dog is reactive, anxious, high-energy, or has been turned away from other facilities, our behavioural daycare program ($95/day) provides smaller group sizes, hands-on trainer management, and a gradual confidence-building approach. We can handle any dog — that’s not marketing, that’s 15 years of experience.

Day & Train

Our most popular program combines full obedience training with daycare — your dog gets 1-on-1 training sessions (commands, leash work, treadmill fitness, place cot training) throughout the day, with socialization between sessions. It’s a board & train without the boarding — your dog comes home every night. At $95/day, it’s a fraction of what multi-week board & train programs charge.

Our Facility

We operate out of an 8,500 sq ft purpose-built facility at 22 Cardico Dr in Gormley — about 10 minutes from downtown Stouffville. The space includes:

  • Multiple indoor play areas for different energy groups
  • Outdoor yard for fresh air, exercise, and potty breaks
  • Dedicated rest zones for structured downtime
  • Treadmill and slatmill for fitness and focus work

The facility is designed for dogs, not retrofitted from something else. Proper ventilation, non-slip flooring, and separate areas so dogs aren’t crammed together.

The Stouffville Daycare Landscape

If you’re comparing daycares in Stouffville, here are a few things worth asking any facility:

  1. What’s your staff-to-dog ratio? More staff means better supervision. Ask specifically — “we have enough” isn’t an answer.

  2. How do you group dogs? By size alone, or by temperament? Temperament matching is more work but dramatically safer and more effective.

  3. What’s your safety record? 15 years with zero serious incidents is our answer. Ask others for theirs.

  4. Can you handle dogs with behavioural challenges? Many daycares will quietly decline dogs that are reactive, nervous, or intact. We won’t.

  5. Do you offer training as part of the day? Standard daycare provides socialization, but it doesn’t teach your dog commands, leash manners, or impulse control. That’s what Day & Train is for.

  6. What qualifications does your staff have? “Loves dogs” is great. It’s also not a qualification. Look for facilities where staff are trained in canine behaviour, not just dog handling.

  • Staff who know your dog’s name, personality, and quirks within the first week

What we don’t do:

  • Facility tours (they’re disruptive to dogs in session)

Getting Here

From downtown Stouffville, head north on Highway 48. We’re at 22 Cardico Dr in Gormley — about a 10-minute drive. If you’re coming from the newer developments on the east side of Stouffville, it’s even closer via Bloomington Road.

The drive fits naturally into a morning routine — drop off your dog, hop on the 404 south for your commute, and pick up on the way home.

Bottom Line

Stouffville has daycare options. What it doesn’t have many of is facilities run by behaviour specialists with 15 years of experience, a perfect safety record, and programs specifically designed for dogs that other places can’t handle.
