Dog Daycare & Boarding Near Newmarket, ON — Behaviour-Focused Care in Gormley

Dog Daycare & Boarding Near Newmarket, ON

Newmarket is a town that takes dog ownership seriously. Between the trails along the Holland River, the Saturday farmers’ market crowd with dogs in tow, and the growing number of young families moving into new builds south of Davis Drive, this is a community with a lot of dogs — and a lot of demand for quality care.

The local daycare options are decent but limited, and boarding options are even thinner. If you’ve been searching for a facility that goes beyond basic supervision — one run by actual canine behaviour specialists — Academy Daycare in Gormley is about 20-25 minutes south and worth the drive.

Why Newmarket Dog Owners Are Making the Drive

Boarding That Isn’t a Kennel

This is the big one for Newmarket families. Finding reliable boarding in the Newmarket area means choosing between traditional kennels (concrete runs, limited interaction) and in-home pet sitters (inconsistent, hard to vet). Neither option gives your dog the structured, supervised environment they’re used to during the day.

Academy Daycare’s boarding ($75/night, or $65/night for stays of 7+ nights) keeps your dog in the same facility, with the same staff, following the same structured routine as our daycare program. Your dog plays in temperament-matched groups during the day, gets outdoor yard time, and sleeps in a managed overnight environment. It’s not a kennel. It’s not someone’s spare bedroom. It’s professional care, 24 hours.

For Newmarket families planning a weekend away or a week-long vacation, this is the kind of boarding that lets you actually relax while you’re gone.

Behaviour Specialists, Not Just Dog Watchers

Our staff have 15 years of experience in canine behaviour. That’s not a marketing line — it’s the foundation of how we operate. Every dog that comes through our door is assessed for temperament and placed in a group that matches their energy level and play style. We read body language, manage arousal levels, and structure the day around alternating play sessions and enforced rest periods.

This is why we’ve maintained a perfect safety record. It’s not luck. It’s expertise.

Programs That Actually Fit Your Dog

Not every dog belongs in open group play. Newmarket has its share of rescue dogs, reactive dogs, and dogs that are perfectly lovely at home but fall apart in a high-stimulation daycare environment. We have programs for all of them.

Standard Daycare — $55/day For well-socialized dogs that do well in group settings. Temperament-matched play groups, outdoor yard access, structured play-and-rest cycles, and supervision by behaviour specialists in our 8,500 sq ft facility.

Behavioural Daycare — $95/day For dogs that need more support — reactive, anxious, over-aroused, or previously expelled from other daycares. Smaller group sizes, hands-on trainer management, and a structured environment that builds confidence rather than flooding your dog with stimulation.

Day & Train — $95/day Full obedience training woven into the daycare day. Your dog gets 1-on-1 training sessions — commands, leash work, treadmill fitness, place cot training — between structured socialization periods. This is the most popular program for owners who want their dog trained without spending their own evenings and weekends on it.

Day & Train is also our recommendation for intact dogs. Spay and neuter aren’t required at Academy, but intact males over 1 year tend to do better with the individualized management this program provides.

Boarding — $75/night ($65/night for 7+ nights) Professional overnight care with the same structured daycare routine during the day. No isolation, no kennels — your dog stays active, supervised, and socialized.

Multi-Day Packs

If you’re coming from Newmarket multiple days a week, the packs make the economics work:

  • Daycare: 5-day $265 ($53/day) · 10-day $500 ($50/day) · 15-day $705 ($47/day) · Unlimited $649/mo
  • Day & Train: 5-day $465 ($93/day) · 10-day $900 ($90/day) · 15-day $1,305 ($87/day) · Unlimited $1,395/mo

Unlimited plans include bath and nail trim — your dog comes home clean without a separate grooming appointment.

Getting Here from Newmarket

There are a couple of good routes depending on where in Newmarket you’re starting:

  • From south Newmarket (Davis Drive area): Head east on Davis Drive to Highway 404, south to Stouffville Road, east to Gormley. About 20 minutes.
  • From central/north Newmarket: East on Green Lane to Highway 404, south to Stouffville Road, east to Gormley. About 20-25 minutes.
  • From the west side (Bayview corridor): South on Bayview to Green Lane or Davis Drive, then east to the 404. About 25 minutes.

Drop-off is 7:00-10:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Pickup is 3:00-8:00 PM. The 404 keeps the drive fast and predictable — you’re not fighting through town traffic to get here.

Getting Started Is Simple

We don’t make you jump through hoops:

  1. Vaccinations: Current rabies, bordetella, and DHPP — all three required
  2. Age: 16 weeks minimum
  3. Spay/neuter: Strongly recommended but not required. Intact males over 1 year typically do better in Day & Train
  4. No assessments: We don’t require a multi-visit trial. We can handle any dog — that’s the benefit of having behaviour specialists on staff, not general attendants

You’ll get weekly report cards with real observations about your dog’s behaviour, socialization, and progress. Not a webcam feed — actual feedback from the people working with your dog every day.

A Note on Newmarket’s Rescue Dog Community

Newmarket has an active rescue community, and we see a lot of adopted dogs come through our doors. Many of these dogs have unknown histories, some reactivity, and varying levels of socialization. They’re often the dogs that struggle most at traditional daycares — too nervous for open play, too unpredictable for a franchise’s standardized intake process.

This is exactly what our Behavioural Daycare and Day & Train programs were built for. If you’ve adopted a dog and you’re struggling with socialization, leash reactivity, or just getting them comfortable around other dogs, call us before you give up on daycare entirely. We’ve worked with hundreds of dogs that other facilities wouldn’t take.
