Dog Daycare Near Don Mills — Closer Than You Think

Dog Daycare Near Don Mills — Closer Than You Think

Don Mills sits right on the 404. That single fact changes the math on dog daycare entirely. While most Toronto dog owners have to weigh commute time against quality, Don Mills residents can reach Academy Daycare in Gormley in about 25-30 minutes — straight north, no turns, no surface streets, no guessing. You’re on the 404 at Don Mills and Sheppard, and you stay on it until Stouffville Road. That’s the entire commute.

If you’ve been settling for whatever franchise daycare is closest to Don Mills Centre, you have a better option that’s barely farther away.

Don Mills: More Density, Same Daycare Gap

Don Mills has changed significantly in the last decade. The old Don Mills Centre is now a mixed-use development. Condos have gone up along the 404 corridor. Young professionals and families have moved in alongside the longtime residents. There’s more density, more dogs, and more demand for quality pet services.

But the daycare options haven’t kept pace. The franchise locations along Sheppard and in the nearby plazas offer the standard package — open-play rooms, webcams, and staff who rotate every few months. They’re convenient. They’re also generic. Every dog gets the same experience regardless of whether they’re a confident Golden Retriever or an anxious rescue that shuts down in large groups.

Edwards Gardens is beautiful. The Don Valley trails are right in your backyard. But a walk — even a great one — doesn’t replace structured socialization and professional behaviour management.

Academy Daycare in Gormley is a purpose-built 8,500 sq ft facility run by canine behaviour specialists with 15 years of experience and a perfect safety record. For Don Mills dog owners, we’re also not far away.

Three Distinct Programs

Most daycares offer one thing: a room full of dogs. We offer three programs because different dogs need different approaches.

Standard Daycare — $55/day

For dogs that are socially confident and enjoy group play. Your dog spends the day in temperament-matched groups — matched by energy level and play style, not just sorted by weight. Structured play-and-rest cycles, outdoor yard access, and behaviour specialist supervision throughout the day.

Daycare packs: 5 days for $265, 10 days for $500, 15 days for $705, or Unlimited at $649/month. The unlimited pack includes a bath and nail trim.

Behavioural Daycare — $95/day

Designed for dogs that don’t thrive in traditional open-play settings. Reactive dogs. Anxious dogs. Dogs with poor impulse control. Dogs that have been kicked out of other facilities — not because they’re dangerous, but because those facilities weren’t equipped to manage them.

Don Mills has a lot of condo dogs. Dogs that were raised in apartments, didn’t get early socialization, and now struggle with the intensity of a 25-dog playroom. Behavioural Daycare is built for exactly these dogs. Smaller groups, hands-on trainer management, and a structured approach that builds confidence over time.

Day & Train — $95/day

Day & Train merges professional obedience training with daycare into one seamless day. Your dog gets 1-on-1 training sessions — obedience commands, leash work, treadmill conditioning, place cot training — integrated with structured socialization. Training happens while you work. Your dog comes home tired and better behaved.

Day & Train packs: 5 days for $465, 10 days for $900, 15 days for $1,305, or Unlimited at $1,395/month (includes bath and nail trim).

Intact dogs are welcome in Day & Train. We use professional training tools: prong collars, e-collars (TENS-based), slip leads, and muzzles when appropriate. These are effective tools in experienced hands, and our team has 15 years of experience with them.

The Don Mills Advantage: You’re Already on the 404

Here’s what makes this work for Don Mills residents specifically: you don’t have to fight through surface streets or cross the city to get here. The 404 is your local highway. You’re already on it for Costco runs to Markham, for IKEA, for half the errands you run north of Sheppard.

From Don Mills Road and the 401 interchange, you merge onto the 404 northbound. Stay on it. Exit at Stouffville Road. Turn east. Our facility is at 22 Cardico Drive in Gormley. Door to door, 25-30 minutes. In some cases, that’s faster than driving crosstown to a downtown daycare through midtown traffic.

Drop-off is 7 to 10 AM, Monday through Friday. Pickup is 3 to 8 PM. If you work anywhere along the 404 corridor — Markham, Richmond Hill, Newmarket — Academy is literally on your commute route.

Boarding — $75/night

When you travel, Academy offers boarding at $75/night — or $65/night for stays of 7 or more nights. Your dog stays in the same facility with the same behaviour-specialist staff who know them from daycare. No separate boarding kennel, no unfamiliar handlers, no transition stress.

Simple Requirements, No Hassle

Dogs must be at least 16 weeks old with three core vaccines current: rabies, bordetella, and DHPP. There’s no formal assessment process — we observe your dog and place them in the right group from their first day. Weekly report cards keep you updated on your dog’s behaviour and progress.

We don’t offer facility tours during operating hours because our priority is the dogs in our care, not sales walkthroughs. We’re happy to answer any questions by phone.

Stop Settling for the Closest Option

Don Mills dog owners have a practical streak. You value convenience, but not at the expense of quality. Academy Daycare is 25 minutes up the highway you already drive. Fifteen years of canine behaviour expertise. A perfect safety record. Temperament-matched groups in an 8,500 sq ft facility. Three programs designed around what your specific dog actually needs.

Call 437-776-9563. You’re closer to quality daycare than you think — you just need to look north instead of around the corner.
