Dog Daycare for Leslieville, The Beaches, Riverdale & Cabbagetown — Quality Over Proximity

Dog Daycare for Leslieville, The Beaches, Riverdale & Cabbagetown

East Toronto is dog country. You can’t walk a block of Queen Street East without passing someone with a well-groomed Doodle on a leather leash. The Beaches off-leash area at Kew Gardens is a social institution. Withrow Park in Riverdale has one of the most active dog communities in the city. Cabbagetown’s Parliament Street crowd knows every dog by name. Leslieville storefronts stock raw food, boutique treats, and $80 harnesses. The dog culture here is real — and the owners are invested.

So when it comes to daycare, you’re not looking for the cheapest kennel with a webcam. You want a facility that matches the standard you already set at home. Academy Daycare in Gormley is where east Toronto dog owners go when they realize the neighbourhood options aren’t cutting it.

Why the Neighbourhood Options Fall Short

Leslieville, Cabbagetown, Riverdale, and the Beaches have a handful of daycare options within walking distance or a short drive. Some are solid small operations. But the reality is that urban daycare facilities in east Toronto face the same constraints: limited square footage, high rent, high dog-to-staff ratios to cover overhead, and a generalist approach that treats every dog the same.

If your dog is well-socialized and easy-going, a decent urban daycare might be fine. But if your dog is reactive, anxious, over-stimulated in large groups, or needs actual training — not just supervision — you’ve probably already discovered that most local options can’t help.

Cabbagetown owners with a rescue that has leash reactivity know this. Beaches dog parents whose puppy came home from daycare more wound up than when they left know this. Riverdale professionals who spent $2,000 on a group obedience course that didn’t stick know this. Leslieville owners whose dog was asked to leave a franchise daycare after one trial day know this.

Academy Daycare exists for these dogs and these owners.

15 Years of Behaviour Expertise in 8,500 Square Feet

Academy is a purpose-built facility in Gormley, Ontario — about 35-40 minutes north of east Toronto via the DVP to the 404. We’re canine behaviour specialists, not a franchise and not a side hustle. Fifteen years in operation. A perfect safety record. An 8,500 sq ft facility with outdoor yard space and temperament-matched playgroups.

Temperament matching is what separates a behaviour-focused facility from a standard daycare. Most daycares sort dogs by size. Big room, small room, done. But a shy 50-pound Spaniel and a pushy 50-pound Pit mix have nothing in common socially — yet they’d end up in the same group at a franchise.

We match dogs by energy level, play style, and social confidence. Your dog plays with dogs that are genuinely compatible. That means better socialization, less stress, and no bullying. It’s the difference between throwing your dog into a crowded bar and introducing them to the right friend group.

Three Programs — Because Not Every Dog Needs the Same Thing

Standard Daycare — $55/day

For dogs that enjoy group play and are socially well-adjusted. Structured play-and-rest cycles, outdoor yard access, and behaviour specialist supervision throughout the day.

Daycare packs make regular attendance more affordable: 5 days for $265, 10 days for $500, 15 days for $705, or Unlimited at $649/month. The unlimited pack includes a bath and nail trim — which, for a Beaches dog owner already spending $60+ on grooming, is a real perk.

Behavioural Daycare — $95/day

This is the program that most daycares simply cannot offer, because they don’t have the staff expertise. Behavioural Daycare is designed for dogs that struggle in traditional daycare environments — reactive dogs, anxious dogs, dogs with impulse control issues, dogs that have been asked to leave other facilities.

These dogs aren’t bad dogs. They’re dogs that need a different environment. Smaller, trainer-managed groups. Active guidance throughout the day. A structured approach that builds social skills and confidence over time rather than just containing the problem.

If you adopted a pandemic puppy in Cabbagetown and now have a 4-year-old dog that barks at every dog on Parliament Street, Behavioural Daycare is where that dog starts to change. If your Beaches rescue flunked out of a franchise daycare after one visit, this is the program that actually works. If your Riverdale dog loses it every time they see another dog at Withrow Park, we can help.

Day & Train — $95/day

Day & Train combines professional obedience training with daycare in a single day. Your dog gets 1-on-1 training sessions — leash work, commands, treadmill conditioning, place cot training — woven between structured socialization with temperament-matched groups. It’s training that happens while you’re at work instead of eating your Saturday mornings.

Day & Train packs: 5 days for $465, 10 days for $900, 15 days for $1,305, or Unlimited at $1,395/month (includes bath and nail trim).

Weekly report cards track exactly what was worked on and where your dog is progressing. No guesswork. No vague “had a great day!” updates. Actual detail on training milestones.

Intact dogs are welcome in Day & Train — we don’t require spay or neuter. We use professional training tools: prong collars, e-collars (TENS-based), slip leads, and muzzles when appropriate. These are the tools that produce real results with dogs that have real challenges.

Getting to Academy from East Toronto

The drive is straightforward. From Leslieville or the Beaches, you pick up the DVP via Eastern Avenue or the Dundas ramp. From Cabbagetown or Riverdale, Bayview or Broadview drops you onto the DVP directly. Once you’re on the parkway heading north, it merges into the 404 — and from there it’s a straight shot to the Stouffville Road exit. Our facility is at 22 Cardico Drive, Gormley.

Total drive time: about 35-40 minutes, depending on when you hit the DVP. Drop-off is 7 to 10 AM, pickup is 3 to 8 PM, Monday through Friday. If you’re heading north for work — Markham, Richmond Hill, anywhere up the 404 corridor — it’s barely out of your way.

And here’s what east Toronto dog owners tell us after a few weeks: the drive stops feeling like a commute and starts feeling like a decision. You pass several franchise daycares on the way. You choose Academy because the difference in your dog is obvious.

Boarding When You Travel — $75/night

For overnight stays, we offer boarding at $75/night — or $65/night for stays of 7 nights or more. Same facility, same behaviour-specialist staff, same approach. Your dog doesn’t get handed off to a separate boarding operation with staff who’ve never met them.

For Beaches families heading to the cottage for a week, or Leslieville couples taking a trip, it’s one less thing to worry about.

What We Require

Dogs must be at least 16 weeks old with three core vaccines current: rabies, bordetella, and DHPP. No assessment process — we observe your dog on day one and place them in the right program and group. We don’t offer facility tours during operating hours; our attention stays on the dogs in our care. We’re happy to answer questions by phone.

Weekly report cards keep you informed on your dog’s behaviour, social dynamics, and progress.

East Toronto Dog Owners Already Set the Bar High

You feed your dog well. You walk them daily — Kew Gardens, Withrow Park, the trails along the Don. You’ve probably tried at least one trainer, maybe two. You buy quality gear and quality food, and you pay attention to what works.

Academy Daycare is built for owners who think that way. Fifteen years of canine behaviour expertise, a perfect safety record, and programs designed around individual dogs — not corporate playbooks. If the neighbourhood daycare isn’t getting it done, we’re a straight drive north.
