Dog Daycare Near Aurora, ON — Beyond the Franchise Experience

Dog Daycare Near Aurora, ON

Aurora has no shortage of dog daycare options. Between the franchise locations and independent operators in town, you can find a spot for your dog without looking very hard. The harder question is whether your dog is actually getting what they need — or just being warehoused in a large group and sent home tired.

Academy Daycare in Gormley is about 15-20 minutes east of Aurora, and we exist specifically for dog owners who want something more intentional. We’re canine behaviour specialists with 15 years of experience, not a franchise staffed by rotating part-time employees following a corporate playbook.

What Makes Academy Different from Aurora’s Franchise Daycares

Aurora is home to several franchise daycare operations — Dogtopia, Camp Bow Wow, and others. They’re convenient. They’re branded. And they all run essentially the same model: large open-play rooms, webcams, and high dog-to-staff ratios.

Here’s what that model doesn’t give you:

Behaviour Expertise, Not Just Supervision

Our staff are canine behaviour specialists — not college students with a two-week orientation. We read body language in real time, intervene before problems escalate, and structure every dog’s day around their individual temperament. That’s why we’ve maintained a perfect safety record for 15 years.

At a franchise, the staff are trained to follow protocols. At Academy, the staff are trained to read dogs.

Behavioural Daycare — Something Franchises Don’t Offer

If your dog is reactive, anxious, over-aroused, or has been turned away from another daycare, you already know the franchise model doesn’t work for them. Large open-play rooms with 20+ dogs are the worst possible environment for a dog that struggles with impulse control or social pressure.

Our Behavioural Daycare program ($95/day) puts these dogs in smaller, carefully managed groups with hands-on trainer guidance throughout the day. It’s a program that simply doesn’t exist at franchise locations — because it requires the kind of expertise they don’t staff for.

Day & Train — Training Without Giving Up Your Weekends

Our Day & Train program ($95/day) combines full obedience training with daycare. Your dog gets 1-on-1 training sessions — commands, leash work, treadmill fitness, place cot training — woven between structured socialization with temperament-matched groups.

Instead of dragging yourself to a Saturday morning group class in a parking lot, your dog gets trained by professionals while you’re at work. They come home tired, better behaved, and making real progress week over week.

This program is especially valuable for intact dogs. Spay and neuter aren’t required at Academy, but intact males over 1 year often do better with the individualized structure that Day & Train provides rather than open group play.

Temperament Matching, Not Size Sorting

Most franchise daycares sort dogs by size — small room, big room, done. That’s a blunt instrument. A timid 60-pound Lab has nothing in common with a pushy 60-pound Pitbull mix, but they’d end up in the same group.

We match dogs by temperament, energy level, and play style. Your dog plays with dogs that are genuinely compatible, which means better socialization, less stress, and no bullying.

Programs and Pricing

Standard Daycare — $55/day For well-socialized dogs that thrive in group play. Temperament-matched groups, outdoor yard access, structured play-and-rest cycles, and behaviour specialist supervision across our 8,500 sq ft facility.

Behavioural Daycare — $95/day For reactive, nervous, or high-energy dogs. Smaller groups, hands-on trainer management, and a structured environment designed to build confidence rather than overwhelm.

Day & Train — $95/day Full training program combined with daycare. 1-on-1 sessions throughout the day with structured socialization between. The most popular program for Aurora families who want real results without weekend classes.

Boarding — $75/night ($65/night for stays of 7+ nights) Overnight care with the same structured, supervised approach as our daycare. Not a kennel — your dog stays in the same managed environment with the same staff.

Multi-Day Packs

Most Aurora clients come multiple days per week. The packs bring the per-day cost down significantly:

  • Daycare: 5-day $265 ($53/day) · 10-day $500 ($50/day) · 15-day $705 ($47/day) · Unlimited $649/mo
  • Day & Train: 5-day $465 ($93/day) · 10-day $900 ($90/day) · 15-day $1,305 ($87/day) · Unlimited $1,395/mo

Unlimited plans include bath and nail trim — one less errand to manage.

Getting Here from Aurora

The drive is easy and works well as part of a morning commute:

  • From central Aurora: Head east on Wellington Street or St. John’s Sideroad to Highway 404, then south briefly to Stouffville Road. Exit east to Gormley. About 15-20 minutes.
  • From south Aurora (Bayview/Leslie area): East on Wellington to the 404, same route. About 15 minutes.
  • From north Aurora: East on St. John’s Sideroad to the 404, south to Stouffville Road. About 18-20 minutes.

Drop-off is 7:00-10:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Pickup is 3:00-8:00 PM. The timing fits naturally whether you’re commuting into Toronto or working from home in one of Aurora’s newer subdivisions.

What You Need to Get Started

No lengthy assessment process. No multi-visit trial. Here’s what we need:

  1. Vaccinations: Current rabies, bordetella, and DHPP — all three required
  2. Age: Dogs must be at least 16 weeks old
  3. Spay/neuter: Strongly recommended but not required. Intact males over 1 year often do better in Day & Train
  4. That’s it. We handle every temperament. If your dog has been rejected by another daycare, call us — that’s literally what we specialize in

You’ll receive weekly report cards on your dog’s behaviour, socialization, and progress. No cameras to obsessively check — just real feedback from people who actually know your dog.

Worth the Extra 10 Minutes

Aurora has convenient options. But convenience and quality aren’t the same thing. If your dog is doing fine at a franchise daycare — genuinely fine, not just surviving — then stay where you are. But if you’ve noticed your dog coming home overstimulated, if they’ve had incident reports, if they’re not improving socially, or if you’ve been told your dog “isn’t a good fit” — the extra 15-minute drive to Academy is the best decision you’ll make.
