Dog Daycare for Rottweilers & Dobermans — Confident Breeds Deserve Confident Handling

Dog Daycare for Rottweilers & Dobermans

Rottweilers and Dobermans share a problem with Pitbulls: they’re judged before they walk through the door. The difference is that while Pitbulls are rejected for being “aggressive,” Rotties and Dobermans are rejected for being “intimidating.” Same result — your dog is excluded from socialization opportunities they need.

These are powerful, intelligent, confident dogs that bond deeply with their owners and take their guarding instincts seriously. In the wrong environment, those traits create problems. In the right environment — structured, expertly managed, with staff who understand the breed — those traits make Rottweilers and Dobermans exceptional daycare dogs.

Academy Daycare doesn’t have breed restrictions. We take any dog, and we have 15 years of experience working with guardian breeds. Your Rottweiler or Doberman isn’t a liability here — they’re a dog that deserves the same socialization and care as every other breed.

Why Guardian Breeds Get Excluded

Insurance and liability. Same story as bully breeds. Insurance policies flag certain breeds. Daycares that accept them pay higher premiums. Most choose the path of least resistance and ban the breed.

Staff can’t handle them. A poorly trained staff member who’s nervous around a 110-pound Rottweiler is a liability. The dog senses the handler’s uncertainty, becomes unsettled, and the situation escalates. Rather than hiring better staff, most facilities exclude the breed.

Misread body language. Rottweilers and Dobermans communicate differently than retrievers. A Rottweiler’s play style is more physical, more controlled, and more deliberate. A Doberman’s intensity can be misread as aggression by staff who only know how to manage happy-go-lucky Goldens. The breed gets flagged for behaviour that’s completely normal for their type.

What These Breeds Actually Need

Early and Ongoing Socialization

Rottweilers and Dobermans that are well-socialized from puppyhood are among the most stable, confident dogs you’ll ever meet. The ones that aren’t socialized — because no daycare will take them, because the owner is embarrassed by the breed stigma, because the dog park isn’t safe — are the ones that develop the territorial, fearful, or dog-selective behaviours that reinforce the stereotypes.

Regular daycare from puppyhood builds the social foundation these breeds need. Regular daycare as adults maintains it. Without ongoing social exposure, guardian breeds can become increasingly suspicious of unfamiliar dogs and people — which is their genetic default when they’re not taught otherwise.

Confident, Skilled Handling

These dogs need handlers who aren’t afraid of them. Not handlers who are reckless — handlers who are confident, experienced, and can communicate clearly with a powerful, intelligent dog.

At Academy, our staff are behaviour specialists. They’ve been handling Rottweilers, Dobermans, and other guardian breeds for 15 years. They handle with authority, read body language fluently, and know the difference between a Rottweiler that’s guarding and a Rottweiler that’s playing. Your dog responds to confident handling — and confident handling produces a relaxed, well-behaved dog.

Structure and Boundaries

Guardian breeds thrive on structure. They want rules. They want clarity. They want to know what’s expected of them. An unstructured free-for-all playroom with no management is stressful for a Rottweiler — not because they can’t handle it, but because they’ll try to manage it themselves. And a Rottweiler that’s self-appointed as the room manager is a problem.

Structured daycare removes that burden. Staff manage the room. Groups are organized. Rules are clear. Your Rottweiler or Doberman can relax into the structure instead of feeling responsible for controlling the environment.

Appropriate Play Partners

A 120-pound Rottweiler doesn’t belong in a group with 15-pound dogs. But they also don’t belong in a group based solely on size — a mellow 120-pound Rottweiler and a frantic 120-pound adolescent Lab aren’t compatible just because they weigh the same.

Academy matches by temperament, not weight. Your Rottweiler goes with dogs that match their energy and play style. A confident, physical player goes with other confident players. A more reserved dog goes with a calmer group. The matching is done by people who understand the breed, not by a sorting algorithm.

Programs for Guardian Breeds

Standard Daycare — $55/day

For well-socialized Rottweilers and Dobermans that do well in group play. These are the dogs that had good early socialization, enjoy other dogs, and thrive in a structured group environment.

Packs: 5 for $265, 10 for $500, 15 for $705, Unlimited at $649/month (includes bath and nail trim).

Behavioural Daycare — $95/day

For guardian breeds that need more management — dogs with dog-selectivity, barrier reactivity, or limited socialization history. Smaller groups, more structured interactions, trainer guidance throughout the day. The goal is building social confidence while respecting the dog’s comfort level.

Day & Train — $95/day

For Rottweilers and Dobermans that need training alongside socialization. These breeds are incredibly trainable — they want to work, they want to please, and they respond to professional handling faster than almost any other breed group.

Day & Train includes obedience, leash work, impulse control, place cot training, and treadmill conditioning — integrated with structured group play. We use professional tools: prong collars, e-collars (TENS-based), slip leads, and muzzles when appropriate.

Day & Train packs: 5 for $465, 10 for $900, 15 for $1,305, Unlimited at $1,395/month (includes bath and nail trim). Weekly report cards track progress.

A Rottweiler or Doberman in Day & Train three to four days a week will produce results that make private trainers jealous. The breed’s natural work ethic and intelligence, combined with daily professional training, is a powerful combination.

Intact Guardian Breeds

We don’t require spay or neuter. Intact males are welcome, particularly in Day & Train.

Intact Rottweilers and Dobermans over a year old can be more intense in group settings — increased territorial behaviour, less tolerance for pushy dogs, stronger guarding instincts. This doesn’t disqualify them from daycare. It means they need the right group placement and experienced management, which is what we provide.

Boarding — $75/night

When you travel, your guardian breed stays at Academy. $75/night standard, $65/night for stays of 7 nights or more.

Boarding a Rottweiler or Doberman is stressful when the facility isn’t experienced with the breed. A nervous kennel worker handling a 120-pound Rottweiler is bad for the worker and bad for the dog. At Academy, boarding dogs are handled by the same experienced staff who manage them during daycare. Your dog’s routine doesn’t change — just the overnight part.

Getting Started

Dogs must be at least 16 weeks old and current on rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccinations. No breed restrictions.

Academy Daycare is at 22 Cardico Drive in Gormley. Drop-off is 7-10 AM, pickup is 3-8 PM, Monday through Friday.

Call 437-776-9563. If you’ve been turned away from other daycares because of your dog’s breed, that stops here. We don’t see a breed label. We see a dog that needs expert care. And that’s exactly what we provide.
